The ABC Model is a core framework in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) used to understand and change behavior. It helps identify what triggers a behavior, the behavior itself, and the outcome that reinforces it.
Antecedent
The trigger or cue that initiates the behavior.
Can be environmental, social, or internal.
Examples:
A teacher asking a child to clean up.
Seeing a favorite toy.
Feeling frustrated or anxious.
Behavior
The action or response the person demonstrates.
Should be described objectively and specifically.
Examples:
Yelling, crying, or hitting.
Following instructions.
Picking up toys independently.
Consequence
The result or outcome that affects whether the behavior will occur again.
